Why Johnny Can’t Read

I could open this up for a huge discussion on why Johnny can’t read and let it go from there and everybody would be right. But there is one fundamental reason why Johnny can’t read and that is what I want to detail in this blog.

Is reading important? When the public education system was reformed by Goals 2000, School to Work, and Improving American Schools Acts of 1994, the ‘system’ determined who would read and who would not learn to read by systemically removing ‘phonics’ and ‘comprehension’ from English, Reading, and Language Arts.

By removing phonics from the key areas of learning during the early stages of learning (ages 3 through ages 6), the system guarantees itself perpetual existence because it manufacturers ignorance and dependence.

When phonics is removed from the basic learning stages of the formidable years of a human’s life, you guarantee the following:
1. Johnny will not be able to read or comprehend. Without phonics and comprehension, Johnny will always need someone to explain what is going on and why things are happening.
2. Johnny will only be able to work low wage jobs or work under people that will provide them direct instruction. Why? Without phonics and comprehension, Johnny will not be able to think or reason for him or herself. They will have to be micro-managed and told what to do in every step.
3. Johnny will never threaten the system or be a problem to an employer or leadership. Without phonics or comprehension, the system is guaranteed that Johnny will never lead a demonstration or be successful at business, education, or any form of leadership. Johnny will never do what I am doing in the research, read, and blog and they will never do what you are doing, research, read, and share with or teach others.
4. Johnny will never run for a political office or desire to make changes in his or her community. Without phonics and comprehension, Johnny will have low self-esteem and mental issues because they were put on mind-altering drugs when they were in school because they acted out in school and at home. Why? Because they knew they did not know how to learn and they knew it was not their fault but they could not explain what was happening to them. And when they tried, nobody listened.
5. Johnny will gravitate towards the ‘dark-side’ of life because that is what they will understand. They will not understand respect, dignity, moral, and righteousness. They will be bullies. They will leaders of their kind.
6. Johnny may be fairly-decent parents but they will not know how to raise, teach, or prepare their children for anything other than what they have experienced themselves.
7. If Johnny were taught to read using the ‘see and say’ phonic-awareness method, then the day-care, all day kindergarten, or school that is teaching this method is guaranteeing the system that Johnny will fail in math, English, and other academic subjects; dropout; become teen parents; go to jail or have a criminal record; live a sad/unhappy life; and/or worse do something that will hurt a lot of people.

Stop complicating the issue. The problem is not the lack of funds schools have for books and supplies to teach our children. The problem is not the parents.

What is the solution? The solution is simple.

Regardless to age, Johnny  need to be taught life skills and be re-taught how to read using the purest form of phonics. Yes, whether Johnny is 3 or 30, they need to be taught how to sound out the alphabet. They need to learn and understand the vowels. They need to learn to read properly formed sentences. They need to learn how to use the dictionary and thesaurus. When Johnny can start learning on their own, they will want to learn more. Once they are able to self-learn they can do anything their hearts desire.

Its that simple.
