Statistics on Police Shootings

I bet if you asked every person you know each of them would tell you that they have been affected by a police shooting either personally, a close friend, or through a co-worker or member of community/church organization. Either way, police brutality or death by cop happens too often and is affecting more and more people everyday.

At issues are the Statistics on Police Shootings.

Question? Do Police shoot black men more often than other races, the statistics on police shootings says, absolutely!

Some reporting has put forward one of the only figures available: the approximately 400 “justifiable police homicides” each year since 2008, according to the FBI’s annual Supplementary Homicide Report (SHR). That data point has appeared with heavy caveats in a string of media reports, including in USA Today, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Washington Post.

Honestly, nobody knows how many black Americans are killed by their local police officer each year.  Is it racism? What are the real statistics on police shootings?

Clinton Allen, shot 7 times and killed by Dallas Police Officer. Clinton was my Cousin.

The police shooting that hits home for me is that of my first cousin’s 25 year old son, Clinton Allen.

Clinton Allen, a brand new father of two twin boys and preparing to marry their mother was shot seven times and gunned down by a Dallas Police Officer.

On March 10, 2013, Officer Clark Staller killed Clinton Roebexar (pronounced “Ro-bear”) Allen – 25, an unarmed man, by shooting him 7 times, while Clinton trying to retrieve his belongings from a former residence.

Clinton was also shot underneath his arm, with a wound that we believe to be consistent with being shot AS HIS HANDS WERE RAISED.

It is disappointing to know that the Dallas Police Department allowed an officer back on the streets FIVE DAYS after killing an unarmed man.

Clinton was an extremely beloved father, son, fiancé, brother, nephew, grandson, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He greeted everyone with his signature phrase, “Hello World!” Because of his gentle and compassionate nature, Clinton was affectionately nicknamed, “Big Baby”.

My cousin Clinton Allen holding one of his newborn twins a few weeks before he was killed by a Dallas police.

Clinton bravely helped his mother in her fight against breast cancer last year and the weekend he died, was planning his wedding as well as a trip to Los Angeles to visit his sister. That is all gone now.

Clark Staller claims that after allegedly tasing Clinton twice, Clinton still had the strength to choke him which caused him to fear for his life and shot Clinton. However, Clinton’s body tells us, his family, a very different story.

Clinton was unarmed and was shot 7 times. Again, Clinton has wounds that are consistent with being shot AS HIS HANDS WERE RAISED. From photos seen of the police officer; Clark Staller is a MUCH larger man than Clinton – and was armed with a powerful semi-automatic gun, in which he UNLOADED into Clinton’s body.

It should be noted that while the police officer that shot and killed my cousin’s son, Clinton Allen, was white, the District Attorney and the Chief of Police in Dallas, are both black and they stood by their cop.

John Crawford, III was shot inside a Wal-Mat store while holding a toy rifle while standing in the Toy isle inside the store.

John Crawford, III was standing on the toy aisle of an Ohio Wal-Mart holding an air rifle he’d picked up off a shelf when police arrived and shot him dead. A police officer placed on leave after the fatal shooting of a man at a Wal-Mart store also was involved in a 2010 fatal shooting in which he was not indicted after evidence showed he acted in self-defense, authorities confirmed Thursday.

Authorities have not said which of the two responding officers in the Wal-Mart shooting in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek fired the shot that killed John Crawford, III on August 5, 2014. Beavercreek city attorney Stephen McHugh confirmed in email Thursday that Officer Sean Williams remained on administrative leave and Sgt. David Darkow was back on the job.

A Greene County grand jury in 2010 did not return an indictment against Williams in the fatal shooting of an intoxicated man authorities said attacked Williams and another officer when they responded to multiple calls about a violent domestic dispute. Prosecutor Stephen Haller said at the time that the grand jury’s decision was consistent with evidence that showed Williams was acting in self-defense in the June 2010 shooting of Scott Brogli.

George Zimmerman, age 28 shoot s and kills Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old African American high school student.

The story of the killing of Trayvon Martin. On the night of February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida, George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old African American high school student. George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old mixed-race Hispanic, was the neighborhood watch coordinator for the gated community where Martin was temporarily staying and where the shooting took place.

According to Zimmerman’s subsequent testimony, Zimmerman shot Martin, who was unarmed, during an altercation between the two. Responding to an earlier call from Zimmerman, police arrived on the scene within two minutes of the shooting.

Zimmerman was taken into custody, treated for head injuries, then questioned for five hours. The police chief said that Zimmerman was released because there was no evidence to refute Zimmerman’s claim of having acted in self-defense, and that under Florida’s Stand Your Ground statute, the police were prohibited by law from making an arrest. The police chief also said that Zimmerman had had a right to defend himself with lethal force.  NOTE: Trayvon was not killed by a police officer.

On August 9, 2014, Michael Brown is shot 6 six times and killed by a police officer.

On Saturday August 9, 2014, a police officer shoots at least 11 times (allegedly) six of which strikes and killed an 18-year-old unarmed black man named Michael Brown of Ferguson, MO.

11:48 a.m. to noon – An officer responds to a call of a sick person.
11:51 a.m. – Another call comes in about a robbery at a convenience store. The dispatcher gives a description of the robber and says the suspect is walking toward the Quick Trip convenience store.
12:01 p.m. – The officer encounters Michael Brown and a friend as they walk down a street. Brown is shot to death as a result of the encounter.
12:04 p.m. – A second officer arrives on the scene followed by a supervisor one minute later. An ambulance responding to the earlier sick person call drives by and responds to assess Brown.

This police shooting sparks riots, protests, and other forms of civil unrest. The consistency of the protest caused curfews, national guards, tear gas, arrests, and other forms of law enforcement. The citizens demand justice. Justice means that the police involved are relieved of his duties, indicted, found guilty, and locked away in prison.

This is a screen shot of the first shots the police fired that killed Kajieme Powell, 25 in St. Louis 3-days after Michael Brown was killed 4-miles away in Ferguson, MO

The cold blooded killing of Kajieme Powell, 25.

A new video showing the St. Louis Metropolitan police shooting to death the “mentally ill” young man Kajieme Powell, 25 on Tuesday, August 12, 2014; three days after and four miles from where police shot and killed Michael Brown has been posted on line for all to see for themselves the evidence of a different story to what police released. Two on site, eye witnesses in the extremely graphic video describe the police handcuffing Powell after killing him – and caught the entire event on cell phone video; unedited. This is extremely graphic. What is interesting is how fast the police took control of the crime scene and far back they pushed the witnesses so they could no longer see what was going on.

Allegedly the man stole two sodas and a donut and was waving a knife when the police arrived; then he yelled at the cops three times “Shoot Me”. Ok, something is wrong with the young man. Tased him, shoot him in the leg, but don’t unload your guns and kill him! A few minutes after the police arrive they are caught on cell phone camera unloading their guns into the man until he falls on the street and dies. Come on? And this happens three days after the same thing happened not more than four miles away in the height of civil unrest, protesting, military police, curfews, violence, tear gassing, National Guards with high power automatic rifles, in Ferguson, MO! Is this America or is this Iraq? Click Here to watch the video of the eye witness – This has not been aired on TV!

Two days after Michael Brown was shot and killed by police, Ezell Ford, 25 is shot in the back and killed by LA Police!

Family Photo of 25 year old, Ezell Ford of Florence South LA, California.

In the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles, CA, on August 11, 2014, an unarmed 25-year-old mentally ill black man named Ezell Ford was shot in the back and killed by police. According to eye-witnesses after a struggle with police Ezell Ford was complying with police orders to lay face down when police shot him in the back and killed hm.

Ezell Ford was unarmed.

“They laid him out and for whatever reason, they shot him in the back, knowing mentally, he has complications. Every officer in this area, from the Newton Division, knows that — that this child has mental problems,” the man said.

“The excessive force … there was no purpose for it. The multiple shootings in the back while he’s laying down? No. Then when the mom comes, they don’t try to console her … they pull the billy clubs out.”

This happened two days after Michael Brown was shot and killed by Ferguson police in St. Louis County, MO.

The officer who opened fire on Ford has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Sgt. Barry Montgomery.

Omaha police say officers who opened fire while disrupting a robbery killed a crew member with the “Cops” television show and the suspect, who was carrying a pellet gun.

Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said Wednesday that witnesses and officers thought the robbery suspect’s Airsoft handgun was real, but that it fires only plastic pellets. Schmaderer said he believes the three officers involved acted properly during the attempted robbery Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at a fast-food restaurant in midtown Omaha.
Schmaderer says 38-year-old Bryce Dion who worked for Langley Productions and the suspect, 32-year-old Cortez Washington, were killed. Schmaderer says video captured by another crewman of the “Cops” reality television show shows the chaotic situation in the restaurant. Schmaderer said the incident will be investigated and all three officers are on leave. Source: Associated Press

This brings me back to the start of this discussion. Is a puppy dog’s life more important than that of a black man? Has someone issued an edict to shoot to kill black men who finds himself involved in a suspicious criminal act in certain zip codes (in the hood)? How many black cops have shot and killed a white man?

How many police (white or black) have been found guilty and sentenced to prison for killing an unarmed citizen? Reports say that since 2008, some 400 police shootings have been documented as justifiable police homicides.Justifiable means no police went to jail and are still on the job carrying a gun and wearing a police badge. However, a black police officer lost his job in Baltimore City and faces up to 3 threes and $5,000 in fines for killing a 7-month-old puppy dog! Yikes! Something is very wrong with this picture. Houston! We have a major problem!

A musician named, Larry Young, from Louisville, KY, remade an old Sam Cooke song that we all know and love entitled: A CHANGE GONNA COME!

He recently posted this comment on his Facebook Page:  “This one goes out to Ferguson, St. Louis, Los Angeles, New York and all cities in-between. I was all set to do a different song but I was so troubled about the events going on in our cities and around the world I had to sing about hope. I had to address my pain. I pray that this touches someone who needs it. I also pray for the families seeking justice and all those affected. Thanks for your continued support on my album ReVerb” A Big Shout Out to Larry Young! Click Here for more information on his musical works.

Next, please Click Here to watch this short video of Prince Ea. It is his Spoken Word Poem entitled “SAME STORY”.  Prince Ea is a native of St. Louis. It deserves our attention.

Finally, my prayers go out to every one affected by police brutality and unnecessary killings. America, there is much to do in our homes, our schools, our judicial system, and in our local, state, and federal government.  We can change. We can heal.  We can forgive. But we will never forget.

People, we need to change the way we live, the way we raise our children, the way we educate our children, and we need to strengthen our families.

God we need you because only you can bring about the kind of change needed. (Luke 1:17).

As long as I live, I will be praying, watching, and paying attention to the statistics on police shootings.

In the name of THE CHRIST!

AMEN!
